Actions & Tools for a responsible mobility of Indian students towards the EU/ Italy

1 february 2021

On December 2020, Ms. Federica Maria Giove, Representative for Uni-Italia in India, interviewed Mr. Naozad Hodiwala, Project Manager and Country Coordinator for India at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

The ICMPD is a Vienna based international organisation with 18 Member States and more than 250 staff members. Active in more than 90 countries worldwide, it takes a regional approach in its work to create efficient cooperation and partnerships along migration routes.
Over the past 3.5 years, it has been implementing the EU-India Cooperation and Dialogue on Migration and Mobility (EU-India CDMM) project working extensively on developing support tools for policy makers and students alike on mobility between the EU and India.

The aim of the session was to help Indian students plan their mobility independently and safely by replacing the use of unofficial educational consultancy agencies with the official government resources and tools that are available both at the EU and Italian level.
Mr. Hodiwala provided a European angle to the questions raised, while Ms. Giove emphasised on the points with specifics that are relevant to Italy.

Topics discussed:
1. Key considerations that students should keep in mind when planning their mobility to the EU
3. Type of Visa an Indian student should apply for when planning to pursue his education in Italy
4. Possibility of travelling within the EU with a National Student Visa
5. The right to work while studying
6. Post graduation options
7. What is Italy doing at National level for the benefit of Indian students
