Uni-Italia South India Tour

 In the last week of March, with the start of the new academic year in Italy approaching, Ms. Federica Giove, Director of Uni-Italia India, along with Ms. Chiarra Fernandes, coordinator for promotional activities, and Ms. Yashashree Uchil, student tutoring representative, traveled for an official tour in the South of India combining official visits with moments of interactions with the students.


Uni-Italia South India tour started in Bengaluru,  by participating in the final Event of India Begin International Edu Fair (which follows the venues in New Delhi and Mumbai), one of the most important International Exhibitions on Study Abroad.
Along with Uni-Italia, the Italian presence at the Exhibition was enriched by the participation of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Università di Milano, the latter participating in hybrid mode.
Uni-Italia opened the Seminar Session with a 30 minute speech on Study in Italy, which was followed by a very positive interaction with the students attending, who enquired on all different aspects, from scholarship opportunities to practical aspects related to the study visa procedures.
The recently appointed Consul General of Italy in Bengaluru, Alfonso Tagliaferri, visited the Uni-Italia booth and spent his time with the representatives, also interacting with the students, highlighting the importance given by the Italian Government to the mobility of Indian students towards Italian higher education institutions.

For the second and last day in Bengaluru, the Uni-Italia representatives were invited to visit the reputed Christ University, one of India’s top deemed to be university. Christ University boast of three campuses in Bengaluru, New Delhi and Pune, with 50+ Departments, 15,000+ students and 500 + International students.
Here they were hosted by Fr. Dr. Lijo Thomas, Dr Leena N Fukey, Mr Dennison Joseph and Mr Manoj Thomas from the International Affairs and Global Partnerships Office. The discussions further strengthened ongoing connections with Christ University and Italian universities, such as the University of Milan, and other possibile academic co-operation in musical studies and exchange faculty research programs.

With this step in the right direction, the meeting ended with the intention to establish further co-operations with Italian Higher institutions of excellence and to have Uni-Italia visit once again in Bengaluru.

Uni-Italia stay in Bengaluru ended with the visit to the prestigious St Joseph’s College. In the heart of Bengaluru, the Autonomous college has over 7500 students, more than 30 undergraduate programs, post graduate programs and PHD courses.  For this important visit Uni-Italia was accompanied by the recently appointed in-country representative of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Mr. Krutarth Hendre.
The representatives of the Global Engagement Cell of St. Joseph’s College, Dr Susan Mary Philip- Deaortment of Biotechnology , Prof. Pruthvi Kashyap Gurumurthy - Department of Business and Management and Dr Sunita Rajamani - Department of  Chemistry (An Alumni of the University of Pisa) , initiated a very focuses discussion, covering future interactions with Italian HEI especially in the STEM and Business and Management Area.
Moreover, the entire team agreed on the opportunity of hosting masterclasses held from Italian professors, in a spirit of mutual enrichment.
The interaction was fruitful and signed another important step towards the empowerment of the cooperation between Italy and Indian Excellences in the National academic panorama.

After leaving from Bengaluru, Uni-Italia South India tour ended with a 2 day stay at the campus of the prestigious Vellore Institute of Technology, recognized as Institution of Eminence (IoE) by Government of India.
As a very important start, we had the honor of meeting Dr G Viswanathan Founder and Chancellor of VIT along with Dr Sekar Viswanathan - Vice president of VIT.
We then met Dr C Vijayakumar, Director of the International Relations Unit of VIT, who illustrated the various ongoing initiatives with Italian HEI, starting with the official visit of Politecnico di Milan in 2019 especially in the field of civil engineering, several MOU’s signed and an important collaboration with Università di Roma - Tor Vergata in the field of research, business and management and have also organised summer programs for students and faculty before the onset of the pandemic.

After the meeting, Uni-Italia was invited for a tour of the VIT Campus, with 15 departments and 17 research centers spread into 372 acres, 1800 faculty members and 23000 students staying on campus (of which around 1500 are international students).
Following the tour, we had the pleasure to meet Dr Manoharan M, Dean of the School of Languages.
The School includes an Italian Language Course held and launched in 2019 by Prof. Jacopo Mosesso: an immense support to the spread of Italian culture in Indian Prestigious academic institutions.

The day concluded with an amazing informal interaction with the students attending the Italian Language Class of Prof. Mosesso. The students exchanged thoughts and ideas, dreams and expectations for the future and left us with a lot of meaningful insights.
